Wedding consultations are $20 We understand that you may be busy, as we are too. No shows will result in a lose of deposit. Cancellations within 24 hours are subject to refunds. If you order, the $20 fee is applied to your deposit.
Schedule your cake consultation well in advance as space is limited and may result in us turning orders away. We mark our books fully booked at the point we reach full production so not to jeopardize the integrity of a cake to make another sale. Everything at April’s Cake Shop is made fresh from scratch and that includes all of our signature butter creams. Your consultation includes 4 standard cupcakes to sample with a tray of choice fillings and frostings, and a sit down discussion with our cake decorator. Please have an estimated number of guests you will be serving, an idea of the design for your cake and encourage to bring photos or sketches of cakes. We request to bring a maximum of 4 adults and to not bring small children, as this is a full production bakery without close supervision, children are prone to accidents. Let this be an intimate experience for you and your partner, once flavors are decided on, you can always bring your friends and family a box of treats to try for themselves.
There are many beautiful and unique ways to top off your cake. When choosing a topper, be sure it is a topper. Some figurines may not have weight evenly distributed or may be too heavy. Other alternatives: a bouquet of sugar flowers, ribbons or reveal your new monogram. If it is not edible, we do not provide it.
Cake delivery takes coordination. Complex cakes may not necessarily be delivered in final form. Allow time and space for assembly, if needed. Refrigeration may also be required. There will only be one delivery per day depending on location. If you choose to pick it up, you may have to stack it.
Choose a cake that compliments the style of the venue, the season, your attire, the flower arrangements, and/or theme. If you want colorful accents (such as sugar flowers or icing ribbons), give your baker fabric swatches. The cake should be part of the wedding, not a glaring sideshow.
Wedding cake often is priced by the slice -- the cost varies, but generally ranges from $1.50 to $5 per slice (though this is a very general and loose estimate). The more complicated the cake is, the higher the price tag; based on intricate decorations or hard-to-find fillings. Fondant icing is more expensive than buttercream, and if you want elaborate molded shapes, vibrant colors, or handmade sugar-flower detailing, you'll pay for the cake designer's labor.
When choosing flowers to use, keep in mind not all flowers are safe for consumption. Some may have harmful pesticides or leak harmful poisons in the cake. Artificial flowers may have toxic glitter sprayed on or other fuzzy things that may fall onto the cake. When choosing real flowers let your florist know it’s going onto a cake so they can prepare them accordingly. When choosing artificial flowers, shake them in the store and be sure nothing harmful falls off.
You can choose cake, cupcakes or a combination of both. Sheet cakes are a budget friendly alternative and can remain unseen until ready to serve. There typically is left over cake, but not enough cupcakes. Keep in mind when offering more than one flavor guests are more likely to have more than one serving. We can always add servings later when you get RSVP’s back. Don’t forget about the photographer, DJ, and their assistants.
If you are having an outdoor wedding in a hot climate, you might want to go for a fondant-covered cake -- it doesn't even need to be refrigerated. Position the cake table out of direct sun light and preferably in a shaded corner. Buttercream is made mostly of butter and butter melts quickly in the sun.
Avoid freezer burn! Even if you take the most painstaking packaging measures, eating the top tier of your cake on your first anniversary sounds far better than it tastes. Treat yourself to a fresh cake in the same flavor when you've survived the first year. April’s Cake Shop offers 50% off your 1st Anniversary cake up to 24 servings.
There is no obligation to order at the time of your consultation. Keep in mind once the date is taken there will be no more orders put into production. We estimate the price based on amount of servings and design. You can always decide on flavors later and add servings if need be. To get into our books we require an estimated 50% down. Any money down is non-refundable as it holds your place and may result in us turning other orders away. We ask that you do not put any money down until you are 100% certain you want to move forward with the order.
Once you have a deposit down and you are in our books, you will get 20% off your Bridal Shower cake. You will get 50% off your 1st Anniversary cake.
